As a member, you will get access to London properties and support that will be more efficient and often cheaper than going it alone. For instance, our property procurement and allocations platform gives member boroughs everything they need to match people to homes.

Over the next three years, we will procure accommodation for around 20,000 households for use by our member boroughs. This is supported by £38m MHCLG funding from the Flexible Homelessness Support Grant. The grant enables member boroughs to reduce the costs associated with the procurement of properties.

There are other advantages too. As Capital Letters can issue assured shorthold tenancies as a private landlord, we can end a council’s homelessness duty once we become the tenant’s landlord. We will work closely with the tenant throughout, ensuring they are in the best position to sustain their tenancy and do not present as homeless again.

While we aim to place households in secure tenancies wherever possible, we are also developing a temporary provision to end the spiralling costs that competition encourages.

Throughout the pandemic, Capital Letters has found homes for families on behalf of London boroughs, while putting the safety of our staff first. Our office is closed and we are working from home.

We operate under the government guidance for property businesses, updated on 7 January 2021. We inspect properties virtually, as the government requests. Where absolutely necessary to ensure properties meet our quality standards, we will inspect in person while adhering strictly to the guidance on social distancing and hygiene. We ask landlords to do the same.
